Jessica Smith TV

A lot of us have New Year resolutions. Some will probably be losing weight, or exercise more. As you know, Jessica Smith is one of my favorite walk/exercise coaches. See here or here.  I might have also mentioned her site, Jessica Smith TV. It has a wealth of information.

January 28-day jump-start challenge

You can read all about it on her page here. However, I’d like to highlight what she said about walking. It’s really the reason why walking workout is the only form of exercise that I can stick to. Below is from Jessica Smith TV:

And, in addition to your daily “workout,” don’t forget your daily dose of Vitamin W — WALKING!

Goal: Aim for 10,000 steps (or more) daily

If you are starting out well below this number, please add in more steps gradually so you don’t overdo it!

Already at 10K a day? Feel free to increase your steps and/or work on maintaining your daily goal!

Choose from a variety of our FREE 1-Mile Walk n Talk sessions or Walking Workouts here on our YouTube channel, and/or use some of our DVD/digital walks [all of our mileage DVDs make it easy to fit in your steps – 10,000 is the rough equivalent to 5 miles!] to reach your daily goal.

WHY Walk? Extra walking increases your daily activity level (which equates to less health-damaging sitting!) without you having to ‘exercise’ more. And, some research shows, it may help you manage stress and anxiety better. One study found that participants who walked 10,000 steps a day had lower levels of anxiety, depression, anger, fatigue, confusion and total mood distress scores.

The Plan

Jessica has it all planned out. If you scroll down on that page, you’ll see the schedule. The good thing is that there’s a YouTube video option. So, if you don’t have a particular DVD, you can do the YouTube exercise. Most are around 30 minutes. So, it’s not too long or exhausting. And when you’re done with that, you can check out her Walk On Master Schedule (no floor work option) or Walk Strong Master Schedule. Both are six-week long.

Happy Walking!
