Today, we celebrate the Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels.
Being a cradle Catholic, I learn from young that God has assigned each of us a special angel to be companion, guide, and guard. And Pope Francis confirmed that in a daily Mass in UK. He said, “The doctrine on angels is not fantasist. No, it’s reality,” according to the Guardian.
The pope asked us to ask ourselves, “How is my relationship with my guardian angel? Do I listen to him? Do I say good morning to him? Do I ask him to watch over me when I sleep?” Well, I’m not sure how my relationship with my guardian angel is. I do credit my angel for saving me several times that I know of and remember.
When I was walking home from college one day years ago, I was heading toward a corner store that I used to frequent. As soon as I walked in, a saleslady there said with a gasp, “I thought the van was going to hit you”. She saw a van backing out toward me while I was crossing the street. I noticed the van, but didn’t realize that it was that close.
Fast forward to the time when I was falling asleep at the wheel, somehow I jerked awake just in time to slam on the brake before the car would rear end the one in front of me.
Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom His love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen. Angels of God, pray for me. Jesus, I trust in You.
